As a noun, an abstract is the synopsis of a text or a document. An abstract captures the essential qualities of a more extensive idea. It’s the epitome, or the essence of an idea. An abstract is used to help the audience quickly ascertain the purpose or idea being shared. Abstract, in latin, refers to being pulled away. As a verb it means to remove. As an adjective, it is something that exists only in the mind. Consider this as it all relates to the show- how the pieces capture an essence of nature. The essence is in turn then a sort of expression.
Expression is the process of making known one’s thoughts or feelings. The look on someone's face is an expression that conveys an emotion. An expression is an articulation, formulation, execution and a statement of an emotion or a feeling. Does nature have emotions? What is nature exactly? Nature is the physical world and universe and everything in it that was not made by people. Plants, animals, mountains, weather, stars, and air - all are part of nature. Nature can also be thought of as the character of something, the disposition of a person or an animal.
We can think of Expressions in Nature, this abstractly produced exhibit of artwork as an idiom. A play on words. Such as - “I don’t want to spill the beans, but come rain or shine, every dog has her day. Don’t jump on the bandwagon or leave a stone unturned tho. Make hay while the sun shines, and I know I may be barking up a tree, but you’ve hit the nail on the head here- there’s no such thing as a free lunch… Now go cut the mustard”. Said straight from the horse's mouth..
I hope you enjoy the exhibit- much love to you and yours.
Please shoot me a note with any comments or questions you have about the show- I’d love to hear from you..
